General Gaming

Iowa statute makes gambling illegal unless permitted by some other law. Casinos, riverboats, and racetracks may offer gambling as long as they are licensed with the state. Poker, lottery and sweepstakes, charitable gaming and tribunal gaming are all regulated. Sports betting is prohibited except within certain charitable gaming parameters. Fantasy sports and betting on virtual events is unregulated.

Video Gaming

Slot machines, video machines and simulated table games within casinos and riverboats are permitted. Video machines that simulate table games are not permitted at racetracks that do not possess a table games license. Lottery vending machines are prohibited in Iowa.
